§ 29. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for India if he is aware that cable and airmail Press articles sent to India are subject to delay sometimes of five weeks and more; whether this is due to action in this country or in India; and whether, seeing that the news despatched is ultimately permitted to be printed, he will take steps to prevent such needless delay.
§ The Secretary of State for India (Mr. Amery)I am not aware that there is such delay, but if the hon. Member will give me specific information, I will make inquiries.
§ Mr. SorensenSuch delays are surely excessively arbitrary, and, in addition to the information I may give to my right hon. Friend, will he make special inquiries with regard to the censorship to see what happens at this end and at the other end?
§ Mr. AmeryI will make inquiries if my hon. Friend will give me a clue as to the direction in which I am to make them.
