HC Deb 01 March 1945 vol 408 cc1547-8
29. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for India if he is aware that cable and airmail Press articles sent to India are subject to delay sometimes of five weeks and more; whether this is due to action in this country or in India; and whether, seeing that the news despatched is ultimately permitted to be printed, he will take steps to prevent such needless delay.

The Secretary of State for India (Mr. Amery)

I am not aware that there is such delay, but if the hon. Member will give me specific information, I will make inquiries.

Mr. Sorensen

Such delays are surely excessively arbitrary, and, in addition to the information I may give to my right hon. Friend, will he make special inquiries with regard to the censorship to see what happens at this end and at the other end?

Mr. Amery

I will make inquiries if my hon. Friend will give me a clue as to the direction in which I am to make them.
