HC Deb 01 March 1945 vol 408 cc1535-6
7. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the severe shortage of nurses, particularly in mental hospitals, he will take steps to secure the release of those members of the women's Services who have had experience in mental nursing or who are willing to offer themselves for training in general or mental nursing.

Mr. Bevin

The Service Departments have for some time past been releasing members of the Women's Auxiliary Services with nursing experience, including mental nurses, who desire to return to civilian nursing. This process is continuing, and I should like to express my appreciation of the substantial help given by the Service Departments.

Mr. Sorensen

While thanking the right hon. Gentleman for that reply, may I ask if he can say, approximately, the number of these girls?

Mr. Bevin

I have not that information.

Mr. Sorensen

Would the right hon. Gentleman be able to get it?

Mr. Bevin

I would like to have notice of that question.
