HC Deb 01 March 1945 vol 408 c1550
35. Dr. Edith Summerskill

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much is spent annually on advertising for funds by the governing bodies of charitable homes for children; and what proportion of the income of these homes is spent on administration.

Mr. H. Morrison

I regret that the information is not available. It will be open to the committee on children deprived of a normal home life to go into these points.

Dr. Summerskill

In view of the growing number of advertisements on hoardings and in newspapers relating to orphanages and children's homes, is not my right hon. Friend apprehensive lest there may be a new vested interest in philanthropy becoming established in this country?

Mr. Morrison

It is a point to keep in mind, but I think that it would be better dealt with by the committee. I will draw their attention to this matter.
