HC Deb 14 June 1945 vol 411 cc1762-3
31. Mr. Kirby

asked the Minister of Health whether he is now in a position to make a statement as to the setting up of a commission of inquiry on the co-ordination of the overlapping local government ser vices on Merseyside.

Mr. Willink

The Government are not at the present time proposing to set up any such Commission.

Mr. Kirby

Is the right lion, and learned Gentleman aware that before this war started over five years ago, it was stated that this would be done and that some co ordination of services on Merseyside should take place; and would the right hon. and learned Gentleman give a more informative answer than the one which he has just given?

Mr. Willink

I am afraid I am not aware of what was said in this matter five years ago, but the Government's policy in regard to local government areas and boundaries has been embodied in the White Paper and, now, in the Bill.
