§ Mr. Attlee (by Private Notice)asked the Deputy Leader of the House whether he can now state the position regarding the Family Allowances Bill, and whether there is still a possibility of it reaching the Statute Book before the General Election.
§ The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Anderson)I have been asked to reply. The Government are desirous of seeing this Bill pass into law before the General Election. This will only be possible if agreement can be reached immediately on the outstanding points. As my right hon. Friend the Leader of the House stated last Thursday, discussions are taking place. I fear, however, that there are difficulties which still have to be overcome.
