HC Deb 31 January 1945 vol 407 cc1426-7
5. Mr. Petherick

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received any assurance from the Partisan leaders in Yugoslavia that Reuter's correspondent and other British journalists who may shortly visit that country will be given every possible facility to collect and transmit news.

Mr. Law

No, Sir. But I should do what I could to see that they were given proper facilities if that should prove necessary.

20. Mr. Pickthorn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what British newspaper correspondents have been in Yugoslavia since the relief of Belgrade; and whether the Reuter's correspondent, who is immediately returning to Yugoslavia, is one of them.

Mr. Law

I understand that the following British newspaper correspondents visited Yugoslavia in November and have since left the country:

  • Harrison of Reuter's.
  • Hammond of the "Daily Mail."
  • Cooper of the "Daily Express."
  • Matthews of the B.B.C.
  • Weston, Canadian Press.
The answer to the second part of the Question is "Yes, Sir."
