§ Colonel StanleyYes, Sir. The question of constitutional reform in Mauritius is under close consideration. I am informed 813 by the Governor that, after preliminary discussions with his Executive Council, he had intended to start local consultations on proposals to which I referred in my reply to the hon. Member for Shipley (Mr. Creech Jones) on 20th December. But the cyclone which has just caused such serious damage in the Island has necessarily deferred this action for the moment, but as soon as essential services, etc., have been restored, and normal life has been resumed, these discussions will be proceeded with.
