HC Deb 18 January 1945 vol 407 c350
30. Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that in many cases old age pensioners who are in receipt of supplementary pension and make a claim for extra allowance for special diet under doctors orders are called upon to pay 1s, for the medical certificate and this bears heavily upon them when they have to produce one each week; and will he examine the position so as to make it less expensive to them.

Miss Horsbrugh

The Assistance Board inform me that it is not their practice to require periodical medical certificates as suggested by my hon. Friend, and if he has details of any cases in which they are being called for perhaps he will let me know.

Mr. Tinker

Cannot a better statement of the position be made, as I am getting letters from people who have been called upon to furnish such certificates? I have a letter in my possesion now, which I will send to the right hon. Lady.

Miss Horsbrugh

If the hon. Gentleman will let us have the particulars we will look into them.
