§ 35. Mr. Manningasked the Minister of Health whether the authoritative body to be appointed to inquire into and advise on the local government problems within the County of London will, in fact, be limited in the scope of its inquiry and power to give advice to the area within the present boundaries of the present administrative area.
§ Miss HorsbrughYes, Sir.
§ Mr. ManningIs it the view of the Minister and the Government that this authoritative body will be precluded from considering the question of the present boundaries of the administrative area of London, and will be unable to advise the Government if they think that they should be changed?
§ Miss HorsbrughI do not think that what the hon. Gentleman has said is quite right. It is rather difficult to explain this matter in answer to a question, but I do not think his fears are well grounded.
§ Mr. ManningIs it not the case that if a body such as that which is contemplated by the White Paper is set up it will preclude any change in the London boundaries?
§ Miss HorsbrughThat is a matter for discussion when the body is set up. We must await the Report it makes.
