HC Deb 18 January 1945 vol 407 cc365-6
74. Mr. Summers

asked the Secretary for the Home Department for what reasons he has issued instructions to the police cancelling all licences entitling civilians to hold revolvers.

Mr. H. Morrison

No such instructions have been issued. The grant or renewal of a certificate under the Firearms Act, 1937, is dependent on the applicant satisfying the chief constable that he has a good reason for the possession of a firearm.

Mr. Summers

Will the right hon. Gentleman look into cases where such instructions are said to have been received; and will he say whether the same condition applies to ammunition for a revolver?

Mr. Morrison

If my hon. Friend will let me have particulars of the case he has in mind, I will certainly look into it.

Mr. Summers

And as to ammunition?

Mr. Morrison

I should have thought that it would be necessary to have a permit for ammunition as well, but I am not sure.
