HC Deb 27 February 1945 vol 408 cc1230-1
48. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Lord President of the Council whether, in giving consideration to the future of television, he will endeavour to arrange matters so that a single licence for a wireless receiving set will include the use of approved television apparatus.

The Lord President of the Council (Mr. Attlee)

I am not in a position to make a statement on this matter, but my hon. Friend's suggestion will be noted.

Mr. De la Bère

Will the right hon. Gentleman endeavour to have some prevision in this matter because it is really important that the Government should have prevision in all matters?

Captain Plugge

May I ask my right hon. Friend if, while bearing in mind my hon. Friend's suggestion, he will remember that the wireless licence has always covered both television and broadcasting, and will he in no circumstances allow an increase in the price of the licence?

Mr. Attlee

I obviously cannot give any pledge on any of these matters at the present moment. They are being looked into.
