HC Deb 27 February 1945 vol 408 c1236
64. Captain W. T. Shaw

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if his attention has been drawn to the Loch Sloy hydro-electric scheme and to the Tummel-Garry and Gairloch schemes; and whether permission has been granted for the raising of the necessary finance for these schemes.

Sir J. Anderson

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. In reply to the second part, the question of permission does not yet arise.

Captain Shaw

Is it the financial policy of the Government still to give first priority to the war need; and can the Chancellor give an assurance that, until the war is won, no considerable sums will be directed to schemes that cannot help the war effort?

Sir J. Anderson

I had some difficulty in hearing the question. All I can say is that the application, when this is received in due course, will be considered in relation to other schemes under the instructions issued to the Committee.
