HC Deb 27 February 1945 vol 408 c1227
39. Mr. J. J. Lawson

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether any plans are being made for the de-watering of the coal areas flooded in South-West Durham; and if he is aware that this water is always a danger to mines working in the district concerned.

The Minister of Fuel and Power (Major Lloyd George)

This question is among those dealt with in the report of the Durham Survey Committee, which, I hope, will be published next month, and will be considered together with the other matters referred to by the Committee. The question of danger from flooding receives, of course, the constant attention of the Mines Inspectorate.

Mr. Lawson

While thanking my right hon. and gallant Friend very much for the answer, may I ask him whether anything has been promised to be done about this matter, as it has been a Government responsibility since coal was taken over by the State?

Major Lloyd George

The information of which I am in possession is about the extent of the problem and I can assure my hon. Friend that we shall deal with the matter as soon as possible.
