HC Deb 27 February 1945 vol 408 cc1209-10
7. Mr. Bellenger

asked the Secretary of State whether any new sub-paragraphs have been added to paragraph 390 (xviii) of King's Regulations relating to discharge of men from the Army.

Sir J. Grigg

Yes, Sir. Warrant Officers, N.C.Os. and men who have hitherto been discharged under King's Regulations 390 (xviii) (a) "Services no longer required" will, in future, be dis- charged under sub-paragraphs (f) and (g). The reason for discharge, in the case of other ranks, will be There being no Army employment suitable to his age and medical category. The question of the notice leave to be granted to such men is now under consideration. As I made clear to the hon. Member last Tuesday, men of medical category C have, since 12th October, 1944, been invalided out of the Army under sub-paragraph (xvi) of this King's Regulation.

Mr. Bellenger

Would my right hon. Friend explain how the decision which he has just announced implements the undertaking given by him in October last that men of this category would be discharged under paragraph 390 (xvi), which would entitle them to their post-war credits and certain other allowances?

Sir J. Grigg

As far as my recollection goes, the pledge I gave was that medical category C should be invalided out under paragraph xvi. That has been done, as I have twice explained to the hon. Member, since 12th October, 1944.

Mr. Bellenger

I wish to give notice that I shall raise this matter on the Adjournment.
