HC Deb 15 February 1945 vol 408 cc389-90
37. Mr. Evelyn Walkden

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that numerous miners and their families, tenants of colliery houses, in Adwick and Bentley have been, and others are being, ejected in consequence of their employment at the collieries being terminated; and as there is neither alternative accommodation nor available vacant houses in the Doncaster area, whether he will arrange with the Government Departments concerned to convert the new but unoccupied and unused Bentley No. 2 miners' hostel into temporary living accommodation for many of these families.

Mr. Willink

I am making inquiries and will let my hon. Friend know the result.

Mr. Walkden

While the right hon. and learned Gentleman is making those inquiries, will he pay particular regard to the fact that many of these dishoused persons are ex-Service men who are unfit for the mines, and, owing to the mine-owners wanting the houses, have no homes to go to?

Mr. Willink

Yes, Sir.
