HC Deb 07 February 1945 vol 407 cc2066-7
37. Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Works whether steps are being taken to authorise the release of houses which were taken for national purposes in order that families may return to their homes as soon as possible.

Mr. Sandys

Yes, Sir. Subject to the continuing needs of the war, we are endeavouring to release as many houses and flats as possible, particularly of the smaller type.

Sir Irving Albery

Is the Minister aware that many of these houses are empty, that there is no caretaking of any kind, and that very considerable deterioration is taking place?

Mr. Sandys

I know. That is one of the difficulties.
