HC Deb 07 February 1945 vol 407 cc2067-8
41. Mr. Frankel

asked the Minister of Works what has been the cost of building the prototype of Portal type prefabricated houses; the cost of advertising them; and the cost of showing them to interested people and the public generally.

Mr. Sandys

The experimental work, together with the construction and exhibition of prototypes and mock-ups of the pressed steel bungalow, has cost very approximately £80,000. No expenditure has been incurred in advertisement.

Mr. Frankel

Is it not a fact that, in view of this important change, £80,000 has been absolutely wasted?

Mr. Sandys

Not at all.

Mr. Cocks

Could the Minister say what happened to the tools specially ordered by the Government for the construction of these houses?

Mr. Sandys

They have not been moved.
