HC Deb 18 December 1945 vol 417 c1090
8. Mr. Vane

asked the Minister of Works if he is aware of the difficulties of obtaining rainwater guttering and spouting of all types in North-West England; and what steps he intends to take to improve the supply in this district of high rainfall.

Mr. Tomlinson

Yes, Sir; there is a general shortage of supplies which are controlled by licence, and North-West England is getting its fair share. The increase of supplies depends in the main on additional recruitment of labour, and my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, is taking all possible steps to increase the labour force.

Mr. Vane

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that a spout in time saves nine?

Mr. Tomlinson

I will try.

Mr. Turton

Are not some of these spoutings frozen in the builders' merchants' yards, and not allowed to be used?

Mr. Tomlinson

Not to my knowledge.
