HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 cc920-1
49. Mr. W. J. Brown

asked the Prime Minister when it is anticipated that the Report of the Royal Commission on Equal Pay will be forthcoming.

45. Flight-Lieutenant Beswick

asked the Prime Minister if, as announced, the policy of the Government with regard to pay of women in industry is to be based on the findings of the Royal Commission considering that matter, he will suggest to the Commission that they endeavour to make a Report in the near future.

The Prime Minister

I am informed that the Royal Commission cannot yet name a date when their Report will be ready. The Government are not, of course, committed in advance to accepting the Commission's findings.

Mr. Brown

May I ask whether, without establishing any precedent, we might ask this Royal Commission to put a jerk in it?

The Prime Minister

I hope they will report as soon as they can.
