§ 77. Dr. Littleasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will consider removing the means test imposed upon local government officers by the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1944, in view of the fact that no such test is imposed upon civil servants claiming under the Act.
§ Mr. Glenvil HallThe two provisions mentioned were designed to meet entirely different circumstances. The future of the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1944, is at present under review.
§ Dr. LittleWhen this matter is under review, will the hon. Gentleman give favourable consideration to these pensioners and place them on the same level as civil servants?
§ Mr. HallI cannot, of course, prejudice by any statement now what will be the result of the inquiry, but I will tell the hon. Gentleman that this matter is under sympathetic review, and we hope in the New Year to be able to make some announcement.
§ Mr. W. J. BrownCan the Financial Secretary give any estimate of the time in the New Year when he will be able to make a statement?
