HC Deb 13 December 1945 vol 417 cc597-8
21. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Health whether he will arrange to have available a number of priority dockets for the use of medical officers of health for the supply of blankets for use when patients are unable to obtain immediate admission to hospital and have to be temporarily treated at home because of lack of nursing staff or hospital accommodation, as is already being done in the case of expectant mothers.

Mr. Bevan

The evidence I have does not suggest that action on the lines suggested by my hon. Friend would be justified.

Mr. Freeman

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there are large numbers of cases of tuberculosis which have been diagnosed as a result of radiography, and that many of these cases will need such help?

Mr. Bevan

I am aware of the development of early diagnosis, and that earlier diagnosis has resulted in the detection of a larger number of tuberculosis cases. Where there are distressful cases of the kind mentioned by my hon. Friend, the local authority would obviously deal with them.
