HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 cc403-4
90. Mr. Ward

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air when the Perdiswell air port at Worcester is to be returned to the city Corporation.

Mr. Strachey

Perdiswell airport at Worcester has been temporarily lent to the Board of Trade for storage purposes. It is not yet possible to state when the airport will be returned to the Corporation. I understand that the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Board of Trade are considering the possibility of using the airport for civil flying as well as for storage.

Mr. Ward

Is the Minister aware that more than 100 acres in the city of Worcester have been ploughed up for the growing of food and that the city very badly needs this airfield for recreational purposes for its young people, as it is the only place that is possible? Can we have it returned as soon as possible?

Mr. Strachey

We will bear that question in mind, but we have to bear in mind also the needs of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, as regards airports.
