HC Deb 12 December 1945 vol 417 cc382-3
10. Mr. George Porter

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that the Mufti of Jerusalem is under house arrest in Paris, whether any request has been made to the French Government. for him to be handed over for trial; or what steps he has taken to have this man handed over to the British authorities.

Mr. Bevin

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies on 24th October to the hon. and gallant Member for Hornsey (Captain Gammans).

Mr. Porter

May I ask my right hon. Friend, in view of a previous reply given to me that it was necessary to get this man, will he not consider this as information which will help him to "catch his man "?

Mr. Bevin

We have made representations, but I am afraid I cannot add to the answer I have given at the moment.

Miss Rathbone

Seeing that this man did the utmost harm to the Allied cause while living in Palestine, is it not really the right of the Palestinian authorities to have him handed over?

Mr. Bevin

I am not anxious to see him returned to Palestine.
