§ 39. Sir R. Glynasked the Under- Secretary of State for Air how many civil airfields were taken over by the R.A.F.; how many of these were owned by local authorities; and how many have been restored to their former use.
§ Mr. Stracheyuring the war the Royal Air Force took over 62 civil airfields. Local authorities owned or were closely interested in 29 of these. We have given up 12 of the 62. In consultation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, we hope both to add to this number rapidly, and to arrange for joint service and civil use at the majority of the remainder which must be retained for the present.
