HC Deb 05 December 1945 vol 416 cc2319-20
46. Mr. Osborne

asked the Prime Minister if, in view of the vulnerability of this country to atomic-bomb attack, he will instruct the Defence Council to consider the possibility of transferring our armament factories, upon whose output we must depend for security, to the various Dominions, with a proportionately large-scale transfer of population.

The Prime Minister

No, Sir. I favour a more positive approach to this problem.

Mr. Osborne

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that high ranking Service officers are discussing that, and feel that a dozen well-placed bombs could put us at great disadvantage? [Laughter.] I do not see anything funny in that. Is it not the case that the security of this country must depend upon armaments until there is a real world Power?
