88. Mr. De la Bèreasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will introduce legislation to provide that, where men who have been serving with the Forces and have been released, who were tenants of a small shop prior to being called up and the shop has been let to other tenants in their absence, the landlord shall be compelled to reinstate them as tenants in every case where it can be shown that he could do so, in view of the necessity for ex-Servicemen to return to their previous business to enable them to earn a livelihood.
§ Sir S. CrippsNo, Sir. The volume of cases of the kind mentioned would not justify legislation of the sort suggested by the hon. Member.
Mr. De la BèreDoes the Minister appreciate that there are very real cases of hardship among ex-Servicemen; and will he take special care when replying to me, in view of the importance of the subject?
