HC Deb 23 August 1945 vol 413 c761
5. Major Nield

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that there is inequality between the three Services in the matter of release; and whether naval personnel are being released in accordance with their age and length of service groups.

Mr. Isaacs

I am aware that there are differences between the three Services in the matter of release. It was recognised in the White Paper on the Release Scheme that this would be inevitable in view of the differences in their composition and in their commitments. As regards the second part of the Question, Naval personnel are being released by age and service groups, but in view of the specialised nature of Naval duties it is not possible to release all the men in a particular group at the same time regardless of the branch or trade in which they are serving. The groups promulgated for release are not therefore the same for all branches and trades.
