HC Deb 23 August 1945 vol 413 c783
45. Sir Wavell Wakefield

asked the Prime Minister if he is in a position to state what machinery, organisation or arrangement is proposed for the scientific development for peacetime use of the knowledge obtained in the evolution of the atomic bomb; and the extent of the finance and scientific manpower to be made avail able for this purpose.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

Research on the possible use of atomic energy will continue for the present to be carried on under the existing organisation known as the Tube Alloys Directorate of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research to which reference has been made in the published official statements. The resources made available will depend on the programme of research adopted, and this is now being considered.
