HC Deb 22 August 1945 vol 413 cc610-1
56. Colonel Erroll

asked the Minister of Supply and of Aircraft Production what was the total number of civil servants of all grades, employed in the Ministry of Aircraft Production on the latest convenient date compared with the number employed six months previously.

Mr. Wilmot

The number of non-industrial civil servants of all grades employed by the Ministry of Aircraft Production on the 1st July, 1945—the latest convenient date for which figures are available—was 21,055. The number employed on 1st January, 1945, was 21,577.

Colonel Erroll

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether a greater reduction will take place in the near future in view of the reduced output of military aircraft?

Mr. Wilmot

In the Ministry of Aircraft Production, as in other Departments, an urgent review of staffing requirements is now being undertaken.
