HC Deb 22 August 1945 vol 413 c587
1. Major Nield

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will now allow the sending of patent or condensed substances of nutritive value or foodstuffs in good supply here from this country to lately occupied countries in Europe and particularly to Holland.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Ernest Bevin)

If the hon. and gallant Member is referring to gifts of food by individuals in this country to individuals in Europe, the answer is in the negative. In order to ensure equitable distribution of the limited supplies available it remains the policy of His Majesty's Government to send aid only through official channels or through certain approved voluntary organisations.
