asked the Minister of Agriculture why the claim for an increase in the wages of agricultural workers has been adjourned by the Central Wages Board; and whether he will consult with that board with a view to the immediate reopening of negotiations.

Mr. Hudson

The Agricultural Wages Board is a statutory body and I have no power to intervene in its decisions or procedure.

Mr. Loverseed

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these men are getting less than half the average rate for workers? Does he not think it is time that some recognition was made of their work?
