HC Deb 28 September 1944 vol 403 cc389-90
8. Mrs. Cazalet Keir

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can now state the plans for the demobilisation of men and women in the Services, Civil Defence and industry; and whether any schemes for consulting those concerned have been undertaken.

21. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Labour if he can make a statement on the policy that is to be adopted in the re-allocation of people engaged in war industries after the termination of hostilities in Europe.

Mr. Bevin

My hon. Friend will be aware that an announcement has now been made regarding the plans for release from the Armed Forces. Particulars of the substantial reduction in the Civil Defence general services in the near future have also been published, and announcements of the plans for the final releases from these services and from the N.F.S. will be made in due course. As the House has already been informed, I am in consultation with representatives of employers and workers on plans for the reallocation of men and women employed in civilian work, and these will be announced as soon as possible.
