§ 12. Sir Leonard Lyleasked the Minister of Labour, in view of the fact that the provisions of the Reinstatement in Civil Employment Act do not apply to men who were directed to the mines, what steps will be taken at the conclusion of hostilities to enable such of them as wish to return to other civil employment to obtain protection similar to that given by that Act to men who were directed to the fighting services.
§ Mr. BevinAs I have previously informed the House, young men directed to coalmining will receive treatment as near as possible to that accorded to men called up for the Forces. Therefore, while the provisions of the Reinstatement in Civil Employment Act do not apply to them, 386 they will have available all the facilities for resettlement which will be available to members of the Forces, including training, assistance in connection with interrupted apprenticeship and further education.
