HC Deb 28 September 1944 vol 403 c419
58. Lieut.-Colonel Heneage

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will increase the proportion of barley and oats which the farmer can keep in cases where it has sprouted or been severely damaged in the field.

Mr. Hudson

A farmer is entitled to keep all the oats he has grown. The percentage of tailings and screenings of barley which a farmer can retain without formality is being increased from 5 to 10 per cent. on 1st October next. Where damaged grain and tailings would exceed 10 per cent. of a threshing the grower can apply to a malting barley merchant for a certificate which would enable him to keep damaged or sprouted grain that is unfit for malting or the manufacture of human food.

Lieut.-Colonel Heneage

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this damage is in some cases over 50 per cent. and will the permits cover these cases?

Mr. Hudson

I should like to see that Question on the Paper.
