HC Deb 31 October 1944 vol 404 c612
64. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Cook

asked the Secretary of State for War under what circumstances British soldiers were recently wearing German uniforms and carrying arms on the North Norfolk coast.

Sir J. Grigg

It, is valuable for soldiers training to fight Germans to take part in exercises with soldiers who look like Germans and fire German weapons.

Sir T. Cook

Is not my right hon. Friend aware that this form of exercise causes considerable alarm locally, and does he not consider that the British troops involved run grave risk of being shot by volunteers whose duty is to defend these shores?

Sir J. Grigg

I did not hear the first part of the Question, but in reply to the second part, this practice has been going on for the last four years.
