HC Deb 11 October 1944 vol 403 c1720
2. Mr. Alexander Walkden

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received satisfactory guarantees from the Portuguese Government that it will forbid asylum to any Fascist or Nazi war criminals whom the Allies desire to bring to judgment.

Mr. Law

Yes, Sir. The Portuguese Government have informed His Majesty's Government that it will not, by granting asylum in its territory, permit war criminals to escape the decisions of the national or international tribunals competent to try them.
