HC Deb 16 November 1944 vol 404 c2110
44. Mrs. Cazalet Keir

asked the Minister of Education whether he will give an assurance that before approving the new salary scales for teachers he will make it clear to the Burnham Committee that, in the light of any recommendations of the Royal Commission on Equal Pay, they may be subject to revision before the usual period of three years.

Mr. Ede

I am satisfied that the Burnham Committee are fully alive to the point my hon. Friend has in mind: they have properly deferred any consideration of the issue of equal pay pending the outcome of the Royal Commission.

Mrs. Cazalet Keir

Does that mean that the new unequal scales will not be binding over a three year period?

Mr. Ede

I think the position is that they have not yet been accepted.
