§ 20. Mr. Kenneth Lindsayasked the Secretary of State for Air how many teachers from primary, secondary and technical schools are now serving in the R.A.F.; and what proportion he proposes to retain for vocational training schemes recently announced.
§ Captain BalfourApproximately 11, 000 members of the Teaching profession are serving in the Royal Air Force and the W.A.A.F. but our records do not show to what types of school they previously belonged. As regards the second part of the question, it is provisionally estimated that about 8,000 educational instructors will be needed for the Educational and Vocational Training Scheme but it is impracticable to gauge how far these requirements can be met from members of the Teaching profession now serving with the Royal Air Force. It will be open to these serving personnel to volunteer for work in connection with the scheme but it is not known how far they will avail themselves of the opportunity for so doing.
