HC Deb 15 November 1944 vol 404 c1933
4. Miss Ward

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, having regard to the general benefit the allied war effort has received through the Chinese resistance against Japan canalised through Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, he can make a statement on the present situation.

Mr. Law

I do not consider that any useful purpose would be served at the present time by entering into a detailed account of the position in the China theatre of war. Recent developments on the Kwangsi front in south-west China must be viewed against the general strategical position in the Far East, and against the background of the seven-year resistance with which China has confronted the Japanese invader over a vast theatre of operations. I gladly acknowledge the value to our common cause, both in the past and for the future, of China's contribution under the leadership of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek.
