HC Deb 15 November 1944 vol 404 c1934
8. Mr. G. Strauss

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the recent grant of facilities to Otto von Habsburg for his return to Europe have been widely interpreted as an indication of Allied policy; that such a prospect is disturbing to all Austrian democrats and to our Czechoslovak and Yugoslav allies; and whether he will give an assurance that His Majesty's Government will give no support to the restoration of the Habsburg dynasty.

Mr. Law

My hon. Friend can be assured that the Archduke Otto's arrival in Portugal in no way implies political support from His Majesty's Government for the Hapsburg cause in Central Europe. The policy of His Majesty's Government towards Austria remains as set out in the Declaration issued by the Moscow Conference on 1st November 1943.
