HC Deb 09 November 1944 vol 404 cc1516-7
18. Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Health if he will give the figures showing how many are getting supplementary old age pensions; and what is the average amount to each person.

Mr. Willink

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply to a similar Question put by my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Darwen (Captain Prescott) on 19th October when the latest available figures were given.

Mr. Tinker

Could the Minister repeat them for my benefit?

Mr. Willink

At the end of September there were about 1,325,000 supplementary pension cases current, covering the needs of 1,550,000 old age pensioners. The average payment per case was 15s. 10d.

Mr. Tinker

Does the average benefit figure include what is given in kind for clothing or not?

Mr. Willink

Perhaps the hon. Member will put that question down. I thought his question related to payments in money.
