HC Deb 08 November 1944 vol 404 c1345
23. Mr. Riley

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been called to the recent public agitation in Trinidad for increased medical services; and whether any application has reached him from Trinidad for assistance to promote improved medical services.

Colonel Stanley

In response to a resolution passed by the Legislative Council in June last, a committee, under the chairmanship of Sir Alexander Russell, was set up to review the medical and health position of the Colony, to consider the reorganisation of the administration of the medical and health services, and to make recommendations. My latest information is that this committee is expected to report shortly. The answer to the last part of the Question is in the negative.

Dr. Morgan

Were any representations trade from this country? When does the ight hon. and gallant Gentleman propose to receive a deputation on the matter?

Colonel Stanley

Perhaps my hon. Friend would put that question on the Paper.

Mr. Riley

Is there any intention of giving assistance from the Colonial Welfare Fund?

Colonel Stanley

The hon. Member must be aware that Trinidad has, up to now, made no application for assistance from His Majesty's Government.
