HC Deb 07 November 1944 vol 404 cc1227-8
15 and 16. Mr. Neil Maclean

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) whether, in reviewing the possibilities of post-war trade, he has under consideration the prevention of agreements between British trading organisations and foreign trading organisations, which will be detrimental to the interests of the British public;

(2) whether he will institute a public inquiry into the operation of cartels and the connection of British firms with foreign firms in the organisation of such trade combinations.

Mr. Dalton

As has been previously stated, no public inquiry will be made into this matter. But I hope that it will be possible to introduce legislation next Session on the lines proposed in Paragraph 54 of the White Paper on Employment Policy.
