HC Deb 01 November 1944 vol 404 c775
4. Miss Ward

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether negotiations are in progress for the return of British residents in France who have been evacuees to this country since the fall of France.

Mr. Law

There have as yet been no negotiations with the French Provisional Government concerning the return of British subjects who were evacuated from France in 1940. At present transport facilities to France are so limited that it is only possible for places to be found for civilians whose journey can be certified by the competent Government Department as being on urgent business of national importance to either country.
