HC Deb 01 November 1944 vol 404 c795
45. Miss Ward

asked the Prime Minister whether, in order to ensure a co-ordinated economic policy between this country and foreign countries, he will appoint a special economic sub-committee of the Cabinet, presided over by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

The broad issues of external economic policy are, of course, for the War Cabinet. Many Departments are concerned in this field, and I can assure my hon. Friend that as and when appropriate such questions are remitted for consideration by Cabinet Committees. But I would remind her that it is contrary to general practice to disclose or discuss details of Cabinet Committee machinery.

Sir Herbert Williams

Can the Minister say when the Cabinet can tell us how and when we are to compete with America after the war?
