HC Deb 01 November 1944 vol 404 c778
11. Mr. Riley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can now state the terms of the armistice which has been concluded between the Allied Powers and Bulgaria; whether Bulgaria will now be recognised as a co-belligerent; and whether the Bulgarian army is now co-operating with Allied forces against Germany.

Mr. Law

As to the first part of the Question the Press of 30th October contained particulars of the terms of the armistice concluded at Moscow on 28th October. As regards the second and third parts I have nothing to add to my reply to My hon. Friend's Question of 25th October.

Mr. Riley

Is it not now possible to say whether the Bulgarians are being recognised and whether they are cooperating with the Allies against the enemy?

Mr. Law

I said that I have nothing to add to the reply I gave last week, and if my hon. Friend will refer to that reply, he will see that the Bulgarians are not recognised as co-belligerents.

Mr. Riley

Now that the armistice has been agreed to—which was not the case last week—why is it that a change has not taken place?

Mr. Law

It is true that the armistice has now been agreed to, but the position remains the same. The Bulgarians have not been recognised by any of the Allied Governments as co-belligerents.
