HC Deb 01 November 1944 vol 404 c782
20. Mr. E. P. Smith

asked the Minister of Aircraft Production whether any plans have yet been made for the reorganisation of aeronautical research in the postwar period or for the introduction of a scheme under which representatives of the producers of aircraft and the civil, naval, military and air force users thereof can be brought together in the form of a council or board to maintain an adequate programme of research into all fundamental aeronautical problems; and, if not, whether he will arrange for this problem to be examined by the appropriate experts as soon as possible.

The Minister of Aircraft Production (Sir Stafford Cripps)

A number of concrete plans have already been considered with regard to post-war research organisation in various branches of the subject matter but the complete scheme has not yet been finally settled. As my hon. Friend is aware, there is already an Aeronautical Research Committee and the future composition and terms of reference of this body, which has made a most valuable contribution in research matters. is now under my consideration.
