HC Deb 25 May 1944 vol 400 cc915-6
28. General Sir George Jeffreys

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is proposing to take any action with a view to giving effect to the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on Justices' Clerks.

Mr. H. Morrison

Yes, Sir. There have been preliminary informal talks with representative clerks of the peace and clerks to justices, and I am hoping shortly to bring to the notice of justices certain of the recommendations that can be brought into effect without legislation. I am not yet in a position to make any statement with regard to legislation on this subject.

Sir G. Jeffreys

Will my right hon. Friend consider one of the recommendations, to the effect that rules of procedure should be laid clown for all benches of magistrates?

Mr. Morrison

I forget whether that would require legislation or not. If it does not, I will certainly take it into early account.
