HC Deb 25 May 1944 vol 400 cc917-8
31. Captain Plugge

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of recent criticisms, he can make any statement as to the future of Dartmoor.

Mr. H. Morrison

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply given, on 23rd May, by my right hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Plaistow (Mr. Thorne).

Captain Plugge

Has the right hon. Gentleman any escapes during the current year to report?

Mr. Morrison

I could not say without notice.

Mr. Godfrey Nicholson

Will my right hon. Friend take steps to protect the Governor and the authorities of this prison from criticisms, which are often unjustified? My impression, on a visit which I made to the prison, was that they were doing a magnificent job of work.

Mr. Morrison

I am very much obliged to my hon. Friend for that statement.
