HC Deb 24 May 1944 vol 400 cc719-20
12. Sir Waldron Smithers

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether, in view of the fact that ground staffs take a personal pride in the pilots and machines which they serve, which makes for maximum efficiency, he will take the necessary steps to stop the growing practice of the pooling of ground staffs.

The Secretary of State for Air (Sir Archibald Sinclair)

No, Sir. The system of pooling ground staffs, which has been introduced in varying degrees in the different Commands, has been dictated by the need for the utmost economy in the use of manpower and equipment. I can assure my hon. Friend that the importance of the consideration to which he refers has not been overlooked.
